After breakfast, you will meet your tour guide in the hotel lobby at the agreed time and begin today's tour of Guangzhou city.
Our tour will begin at the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall , hailed as the "Crown of Ancestral Halls in Guangdong." A pinnacle of traditional Lingnan architecture, it is one of the largest, best-preserved, and most exquisitely decorated ancestral halls in China, often referred to as the "Pearl of Lingnan Architectural Art." Built in 1893 by the Chen clan from 72 counties in Guangdong, the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall features a three-axis, three-section, nine-hall, six-courtyard layout with symmetrical decoration along the central axis. It embodies the pinnacle of Lingnan's "three carvings, two sculptures, one casting, and one painting" craftsmanship, earning it the title of "A Brilliant Hall of Folk Decorative Art." It is an excellent place to appreciate Lingnan architecture and ancestral hall culture. Furthermore, the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall houses the Guangdong Folk Arts Museum , where visitors can admire traditional Guangdong crafts such as ivory carving, jade carving, wood carving, Cantonese embroidery, and Guangcai porcelain.
Next, head to [ Lizhiwan ], famous for its "green streams and red lychees on both banks." The scenery here is beautiful; stroll along the riverbanks, where ancient banyan trees with drooping branches create a picturesque scene, contrasting beautifully with the ancient buildings featuring blue bricks and gray tiles. You can also admire the landmark skyline formed by the Wen Pagoda (a hexagonal ancient pagoda from the Ming Dynasty), Longjin Bridge (a three-arched stone bridge), and the Xiguan mansions with their wok-shaped gable walls, fully enjoying the unique Lingnan water town charm. Furthermore, don't miss the tea restaurants along the way. Find a traditional tea restaurant , order a cup of freshly brewed local tea such as chrysanthemum tea, jasmine tea, Tieguanyin, or Pu'er, and some characteristic Cantonese dim sum such as char siu bao, shrimp dumplings, and egg tarts, enjoying authentic Cantonese flavors.
After enjoying a Cantonese-style tea restaurant, you can visit the Liwan Grand Stage , the most representative Cantonese opera cultural landmark in Guangzhou's Liwan District. If the timing is right, you can even catch a live Cantonese opera performance. The nearby Liwan Museum is also worth a visit. It is the first district-level museum in Guangdong Province, focusing on the collection and research of Liwan's history, culture, and folk customs. Among them, the Xiguan Folk Museum is a highlight. It is a typical Xiguan mansion that has been converted into a traditional one. You can immerse yourself in the traditional Lingnan folk customs, such as traditional Cantonese residential architecture, wedding customs, and tea house culture. You can also admire distinctive cultural relics such as Manchurian windows and rosewood furniture.
Afterwards, continue to visit Yongqingfang , known as "Guangzhou's most beautiful old street." It preserves the longest and most complete arcade building complex in Guangzhou, blending Chinese and Western elements such as blue brick walls, Roman columns, and Manchurian windows, while also incorporating modern cultural and creative elements. Strolling through it, you can admire the exquisite architecture such as arcade buildings, Xiguan mansions, moon bridges, intangible cultural heritage handicraft workshops, and art galleries, and fully enjoy the ancient charm and modern splendor of the Cantonese style. You can also taste authentic old Guangzhou flavors , such as beef offal soup, wontons, egg tarts, rice noodle rolls, lai fun, and double-skin milk.
After the initial visit, continue to Huacheng Square , the core landmark of Guangzhou's new central axis. This square boasts 39 landmark buildings, including the Guangzhou Library , Guangzhou Opera House , and Guangdong Provincial Museum , earning it the nickname "City Living Room." From here, you can also enjoy a distant view of the towering Canton Tower , whose unique design, with its slender lines resembling a "small waist," is truly distinctive. Furthermore, the spectacular nighttime light show at Huacheng Square is a major highlight and not to be missed.
Finally, you can stroll along the Pearl River , especially at night: the night view of the Guangzhou Tower, the light and shadow of the bridges, and the lights on both banks are reflected on the surface of the Pearl River, creating a magnificent Lingnan landscape.
Evening optional activity: From 7 pm to 10 pm, you can take a Pearl River night cruise (approximately 60 minutes) to immerse yourself in Guangzhou's enchanting nightscape and capture the most beautiful night views. The cruise offers stunning views of Guangzhou's magnificent skyline and iconic landmarks such as the Canton Tower, Liede Bridge (with its LED light show), and Haixin Bridge (the world's longest pedestrian bridge).
